Communications

E-Communication The school publishes a monthly calendar and newsletter. The purpose of the newsletter is to keep parents informed of school related activities, meetings and upcoming events. Newsletters are sent via email every month. Coffee with the Principal is held ever month. Coffees alternate between 8:30am and 5:30pm and are once a month for any parents who wish to attend. This is an open forum for parents and the Principal to get together to discuss Taft Community School. It is a time to ask questions, make suggestions, and share your thoughts. Check the monthly calendar for exact dates.

Parent Teacher Conferences with parents are an important part of the educational process through authentic and meaningful conversation. Talking to your child's teacher can help identify and solve small problems before they become serious. If you have questions about your child's progress, please contact your child's teacher to set up a time to meet and develop a plan.

Teachers commonly schedule two formal conferences a year to meet with parents. Fall conferences are in the November and Spring conferences take place in March. If you are unable to attend your scheduled conference, please let the teacher know as soon as possible so it can be rescheduled.

Success in school often results from the combined effort of the most important people in a child's life— parents and teachers. We welcome your voice and communication and invite you to approach our teaching staff and/or our office to have open conversations.

Parent Questions and Concerns Your questions and concerns are important to the school. We urge you to raise them through the appropriate channels.

  • Your child's teacher is your first avenue of approach when you need to discuss your child, the class or the curriculum.
  • Questions or concerns about school policies and implementation, teacher performance, or other serious matters should be brought to the Administration who will act upon them or will channel them to the appropriate body in the school.
  • The Administration will take up your concerns as promptly as possible. The Principal, Vice-Principal, and/or Community School Coordinator will work with you to resolve them in a given time frame and communicate next steps and resolutions back to the originator.
  • If you need support in deciding how to approach the school, contacting your Community School Coordinator can be a good first step. The coordinator's job includes creating a school environment that welcomes parent and community participation by being a sounding board and a listening ear so that s/he can guide you towards the appropriate source or speak with the classroom teacher or the office staff.
